OBITUARY

This is just a short personal note to all my friends and contacts (many overseas) who might wish to know that my husband, Derek, died a short time ago after a serious illness in hospital and his funeral took place last week.  He was my beloved husband for 66 years and during that time we had four children, raised three grandchildren, restored 4 neglected period houses, re-made all the gardens and as a fun, retirement project, built up a French import textile business.  I  do not need any letters of sympathy but thought that all who knew and met him would like to know of my loss.

  1. My deepest condolences, Elizabeth. I've been reading your blog for a long time, so I got some glimpses of your husband. I was a young widow (who never re-married) so I see your very rich life with your husband as a huge blessing.

  3. So very sorry to hear of your husband's passing. Sixty-six years together is a very noble accomplishment. You will miss him greatly I'm certain, but glad you have wonderful memories, children, and grandchildren to carry you through.

  6. My sincerest condolences to you and your family. Behind your brave exterior, you must be feeling the loss deeply with much brokenhearted sadness. I just read this today:
“The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same nor would you want to.”
